SHOPPING CENTRE
This week saw the closure of RS McColls and the village Post Office. In the past few weeks we have seen the first ever vandal resistant covering go up on the empty shop units and some of the windows of the flats above them. Historically this is the first "UPGRADE" of any kind I can remember in 20 years ! Does this vandal proofing suggest we can expect the shopping centre to remain as a vandal attraction for some time to come or is it simply a requirement by the insurance companies? Tesco update was in this weeks Gazette advising of a public exhibit to come in January.

Morton Nursery
Deadline for petition and letter to Council is fast approaching. Some controversy on the message board linking the nursery to contaminated land. Any comments about this please email

Sheltered Housing
They are now drilling into the concrete floor it seems in order to take soil samples from the ground below. Perhaps they should have done this prior to building such a "state of the art" complex. in this weeks Gazette they are predicting an opening in Jan 2008.

Bonfires and Toxic land
In the Paisley Daily Express recently there were a few interesting quotes from " a Council spokesperson" on this topic.
QUOTE
A spokesman added: “We fully understand the community’s concerns over the issue of soil conditions and are carrying out this extensive study to get a clear picture of what is under the land and what, if anything, needs to be done about it.
“Hundreds of residents have been written to in advance of the investigation and we’ll keep the community fully informed of the results.

Have you or your neighbours recieved such a letter from the council? I would be very interested to know exactly what was said. Please email your comments to

QUOTE
“There is no previous history of any fume complaints and residents should not be concerned.
“We aren’t aware of any complaints following bonfires but we will send officers out to investigate the land on which they took place.”

I wrote an article on June 15th and sent out a newsletter on June 16th covering this topic. That was at least a 4 month warning of what could happen on the 5th November. I also emailed the various local newspapers and officials.
