HELP US SAVE MORTON NURSERY SCHOOL FROM CLOSING
  • The decision to close Morton Nursery School is now in a consultation period
  • This means that we have the chance to object
  • Could anyone who disagrees with the proposal to close the nursery please write a letter with your objections to the address below no later than 12 noon on Friday 21st December 2007.

Some of the reasons we are objecting to the closure are listed below if this helps.

This is not a like for like exchange, Our Lady of Peace facilities pales in comparison to what is available at Morton e.g. outside play facilities, garden area, space, toilet facilities, changing facilities for children who are not toilet trained etc.

The School does not have contained toilets in the nursery. The children will have to share them with Primary one. It is unacceptable to expect a 3 year old , who is only just learning to use the toilet, to have to find a member of staff and wait to be taken. Taking away their freedom to just go as soon as they need to, will ultimately have an effect on their independence & confidence if they end up having accidents while trying to find a member of staff.

Morton inspection reports are the best in Renfrewshire

The birth rate in Linwood is now rising so this space could best be used by Our Lady of Peace to cut class sizes; Some of their classes are already crowded with 29-30 children and others are composite classes. If I remember right cutting class sizes was one of the things that SNP government promised to do when they were elected.

By closing Morton, parents are losing the element of choice as Morton Nursery has two full time teachers on staff, unlike one of the alternatives, which is a partnership nursery, not local authority and can not provide equal provisions of teaching staff.

Can as many people as possible please write in as this is an important part of stopping Renfrewshire Council from closing the nursery. If you would prefer us to post the letters for you please hand them to a member of the Parents Committee or collection boxes are in both post offices.

*Note from editor. The post office in RS MColls scheduled to close on 7th Dec.

The petition now has almost 1000 signatures. If you haven't signed one yet and wish to do so, they can be found in the shops around Linwood e.g. Somerfield, Terry's Chip Shop, The Post Office etc. or see any member of the Parents Committee. You can also sign it online on this website at http://www.linwoodsucks.com/canwefixit/content/view/183/2/

Thank you for all of your support.
