THE PROJECT

In partnership with the local community, Tesco is developing plans to fully redevelop Linwood Shopping Centre in a scheme focusing on the needs of local people. A new supermarket and modern shop units will attract people to the town, whilst vital community facilities will be upgraded and enhanced. Tesco will take responsibility for maintenance of the new centre. Our proposals to develop a new town centre will include:

  • Full demolition and redevelopment of Linwood Shopping Centre and surrounding buildings
  • The creation of more than 300 new jobs for the town
  • Development of a new community library
  • A new community centre to replace the Tweedie Hall
  • Potential relocation and upgrading of Linwood Health Centre
  • A new supermarket to serve the town and surrounding area
  • New retail units for businesses currently operating in the centre, designed in a modern shopping mall format
  • Design features to minimise the risk of crime in the local area

The Proposals

A master plan for the new centre is being prepared by leading Scottish architects Ian Burke Associates. Set in a landscaped location, the new town centre will be served by excellent public transport links. Free car parking, including provision for parents with children and customers with mobility difficulties, will also serve the centre.

  • The town's new supermarket will have an attractive, environmentally-friendly design
  • New retail units will provide a modern mall-style shopping environment
  • A new, larger, community health centre may be developed
  • Linwood library will be relocated and upgraded
  • The Tweedie Hall will be relocated and redeveloped into a state-of-the-art community facility
  • A new six-pump petrol filling station will be developed
